Sweet Treats To Tempt This Christmas

Picture the scene: it’s Christmas Day afternoon and you’re just coming out of your food coma from the huge Christmas lunch, but need a bit of a sweet, yet light, hit to pep up you. We’ve put together a selection of sweet treats to tickle your taste buds and keep your blood sugar levels suitably high.

Flapjackery Artisan Flapjacks

Handmade in Devon using only the finest local ingredients, Flapjackery artisan flapjacks come in an array of flavours that should satisfy every taste. There’s even a selection of festive flavours available, including mince pie, Christmas black forest brownie, and ginger and dark chocolate flavours. All are naturally gluten-free, and there are three vegan-friendly flavours too – the peanut butter and raspberry jam option is truly delicious!

Choose between the different flavour packs available, or select the particular flavours you fancy – as we did in the selection pictured at the top of the page. If you’re sending them as a gift to a flapjack lover (that’s a thing, isn’t it?) they can be personalised with a message and sent direct to their door.

There’s no need to worry about having too many either, as they have long shelf lives of up to eight weeks, depending on the flavour and topping type, although if our experience is anything to go by, they won’t last that long. Delivery is quick and easy, and you can select the day you’d like them to arrive, so you can ensure there’s someone home to receive them.

Great flavours and wonderful textures – you’ll love every buttery, oat filled mouthful.

Seggiano Panettone

For 30 years Seggiano has been sourcing the best, most flavoursome of Italian foods from artisan producers and supplying them to customers across the world.

Italians are passionate about food and Christmas is no exception. You’ve probably tried traditional Italian panettone, that delicious bread-come-cake combination that is a great accompaniment to everything from your morning cup of tea to your evening nightcap. Traditionally, panettone contains dried fruit, candied peel and a seasonal blend of warming spices, but Seggiano has brought together a collection of less traditionally flavoured panettone to tempt you.

While the old favourites are of course still included in the lineup, there’s a boozy alternative, laced with Vin Santo del Chianti, chestnut panettone, made with local Lombardia honey and candied chestnuts, as well as chocolate panettone from Veneto. The one that caught our eye and got our mouths watering though, was the Limoncello panettone from Beniamino Bakery.

The delicious smell of Amalfi lemons is the first thing to greet you as you unseal the packaging. If you can contain yourself long enough to cut a slice, you’ll discover the delicate, light interior which is liberally laced with sweet, candied lemon peel and a zesty limoncello marmalade. The zing from the marmalade made a perfect contrast to the fresh and buttery flavours of the panettone, complementing it beautifully.

I love limoncello and panettone, so for me, this was the perfect combination. Do your tastebuds a favour – if you like a little limoncello, and love a panettone, give this a try – you won’t regret it!

Flower & White Meringues

Flower & White meringue-based snacks are light, sweet-tasting and flavoursome. With a variety of flavours available, including lemon meringue, raspberry crumble and salted caramel, you should be able to find something to suit your palette. Each is paired with Fairtrade chocolate to compliment the flavour, and the liberal covering of either white, milk or dark chocolate gives a lovely firm initial bite, before melting into the soft, slightly crumbly meringue enclosed within. All flavours are available as either individual bars or meringue bites in a 75g pouch.

Flower & White Christmas sweet treats

Despite being a meringue-based treat, renowned for being made with lashings of sugar, Flower & White products contain no artificial additives or sweeteners, so each bar is under 100 calories. They are also all suitable for vegetarians, are gluten-free and contain no palm oil. January will also see the release of Melting Strawberry and Melting Chocolate meringue bars which are 100% plant-based, featuring chickpea-based meringue fillings.

Flower & White is working to reduce its plastic waste, using recyclable packaging wherever possible. Each sale helps others too, as it’s aligned with the Work For Good platform that allows businesses and charities to work together.

Delivery is free across the UK, including Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. To ensure delivery before Christmas, the last order date is 21st December 2021.

The Exploding Bakery Brownies

This South West-based bakery started life in 2011, the dream of old school friends Tom and Oli. Their passion for delivering quality, homebaked style cakes to customers in their cafe, and letterbox brownies to customers across the nation became The Exploding Bakery.

Taste is important, but for Tom and Oli, making their products accessible to as many people as possible was also a consideration, so all brownies are gluten-free, and there are plenty of dairy-free and vegan options too. The limited-edition Christmas special, The Nutcracker, is the bakery’s take on an Italian Hazelnut and Chocolate Christmas Torte with loads of chocolate and nuts and a hint of citrus and spice.

Once you’ve had the patience to let The Nutcracker stand at room temperature for about half an hour, the first thing you’ll notice is that the fully recyclable packaging is created in such a way that it’s easy to get to the brownie and cut it into nine pieces. The next thing that you’ll notice is that while many chocolate brownies can be very sweet, The Nutcracker isn’t. The chocolate is certainly there, but it’s a much deeper, less sweet flavour, which allows the spices and nuts to come to the fore, making it a great alternative to Christmas pudding. Being from the west country, Exploding Bakery would recommend serving it with clotted cream, but brandy butter or a dollop of ice cream would work too.

If nuts and spices aren’t to your taste, there are plenty of other flavours to choose from, any of which would, we’re sure, be a great after-dinner treat this Christmas.

If you are thinking of sending them to a loved one for Christmas, brownies can be embellished with gifts on the side, including a beautiful ceramic cake plate from Feldspar ceramics in Devon, a classic Opinel pocket knife or Round Hill single-estate coffee and Canton teas.

The box contains 12 pieces; half are raspberry and white chocolate while the other half are lemon meringue and gin.
