Steigenberger Golf Resort has welcomed its first guests after an extensive renovation. The five-star resort hotel, located in El Gouna on the shores of Egypt’s Red Sea, was designed by Michael Graves and opened for the first time in 1999. After a 10-month project led by design company GG&Grace International, the resort now has a contemporary Nubian style with arched windows and domes and lush gardens set among blue lagoons.
“The Steigenberger Golf Resort’s design is truly one-of-a-kind, and it’s a testament to our team’s creativity and attention to detail,” explained Gauthier Guillaume, CEO at GG&Grace International. “Our approach is a perfect blend of postmodern architecture and contemporary Nubian elements, creating a truly unique atmosphere. The colours, textures, local materials and patterns have been carefully selected to create a warm and inviting ambience that will make guests feel at home from the moment they step foot in the property.”
The Steigenberger Golf Resort offers guests the choice of 196 rooms and 72 suites, each with access to a terrace or balcony that overlooks the gardens, one of the three swimming pools or private lagoons. There’s also a rejuvenating spa offering oriental and far Eastern treatments, six bars, and three restaurants.
The 18-hole championship golf course — designed by Gene Bates and Fred Couples — offers panoramic views of the Red Sea Mountains and sunny skies. As it’s PGA level, it’s a great choice of course for golfers of all abilities. But Steinberger isn’t just for golf enthusiasts — it also offers plenty to create a relaxed stay for couples, groups of friends and families.
El Gouna is famed for its water sports and has nine PADI certified dive-centres with access to some of the best sites in the Red Sea. It boasts perfect weather conditions for kitesurfing, making it a hugely popular pastime. It also offers deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, horse-riding, go-karting and tennis within easy reach of the Steigenberger.

With this in mind, we’ve made a substantial investment in order to breathe new life into the property and further diversify its food and drinks offering for guests.

The resort is home to nine restaurants and bars with food to suit every taste at all times of the day. Newly opened Harumaki is a Japanese restaurant where over 70% of ingredients are locally sourced, and guests can watch fresh sushi and teppanyaki prepared by expert chefs from interactive tables. The new concept is headed up by executive Chef Ismael Abdel Naby, who joined from Sheraton Miramar, El Gouna.
Other dining options across the resort include Fairways Restaurant offering breakfast and dinner, and La Rotisserie for evening dining. Lagoon Terrace Bar and Green serve both food and drinks, while Hole 19 and Golf View bars serve drinks and cocktails well into the evening.
