Etnies’ winter season collection combines 35 years of skate shoe experience with Michelin technology, revamping its most popular styles.
Within the winter collection, there are three different styles: Sultan SCW, Jefferson MTW and Crestone MTW, all adapted for comfort and performance in adverse conditions.
All three styles in Etnies winter collection have Michelin Ice Control outsole technology, promising that you won’t lose your grip in icy conditions. You’ll also find 3M Thinsulate and water-resistant technology inside to keep your toes dry, warm and snug.
On a cold, icy morning, CALIBRE headed out to put a pair of Sultan SCW trainers to the test on a surface that was frozen solid yet, had a slippery layer of chilly mud on top. And we were impressed.
It’s the benefits of the 3M Thinsulate lining that were immediately striking. From the moment I sank my feet into them, during the time I stood on the frozen ground while photographs were taken, and during the miles of walking along a cold pavement in a biting wind, there was never a point at which cold toes were an issue.
The Michelin soles also did a sterling job, providing plenty of grip on each surface we tried. There hasn’t been an opportunity to try them out in snowy conditions – we’re too far east to have enjoyed the recent flurries – but Etnies promises they’ll work just as well on packed snow, so we’re confident they are perfectly equipped for that challenge, too.
With various colour combinations available across the winter range, you can opt for subdued and subtle, or more colourful and eye-catching, depending on your mood. The Etnies Winterized Collection range starts at £80 and, whichever you choose, our experience suggests you’ll stay dry, stable, comfortable and, importantly, stylish.
However, you’ll also be helping the planet; for every pair of Etnies sold, the company plants a tree. Working with Trees for the Future, Etnies’ Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree project has already seen more than two million trees planted.
