Irish whiskey has been produced since the 12th century, and yet it still seems to play second fiddle to its much more prominent Scottish cousin. Belfast brand Samuel Gelston’s is working hard to put the Irish offering at the head of the table, and now added an Irish Whiskey Cream Liqueur to the award-winning range.
Samuel Gelston’s
has been producing whiskey in Belfast since the 1830s. In 1869 it was sold to Harry Neill, and five generations later, the Neill family are still producing whiskey under the Samuel Gelston’s label.
Under the leadership of Harry’s two-times great-grandson, Johnny Neill, the brand has for the first time expanded its repertoire to include a flavoured liqueur.
“The launch of our first liqueur is a historic moment for my family who have been making quality artisanal spirits for generations,” commented Johnny. “Our latest offering is a real testament to the passion, skill and craftsmanship of our team who have created what I believe is a perfect blend of Irish whiskey, chocolate and cream. We are confident that it will be a real hit with drinkers and marks what is set to be both a busy and exciting year for the business.”
This rich liqueur, which retails at £14, combines the delicate flavours of vanilla and chocolate, which are then underpinned by the rich Irish whiskey the brand is known for, before mellowing to a spicy finish. The creamy nature of the liqueur lends itself well to either being taken neat over ice, in coffee or hot chocolate, or even as a decadent dessert topping.

- 50ml Samuel Gelston’s Cream Liqueur
- 60ml almond milk
- 10ml Orgeat/almond syrup
- 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
- 1 scoop of ice
- Garnish: grated dark chocolate & chopped hazelnuts
- Glass: hurricane
Blend all the ingredients, pour them carefully into the hurricane glass, and then garnish with some grated dark chocolate.
