This spring sees the growth of the Almanac Hotels luxury boutique hotel portfolio, with the opening of properties in Vienna and Prague, joining the already-opened Almanac Barcelona. The opening also sees the launch of the new Almanac X collection, which will offer a more contemporary and chic experience, with a greater focus on modern local cuisine and art, and an active lifestyle.
Almanac Hotels is owned by the Haselbacher family and aims to offer guests curated experiences that tap into their respective city’s culture, using local staff’s knowledge and experience to provide a living, breathing guide to the city.
Almanac Palais Vienna
sits on the famous Vienna Ringstrasse opposite the city’s Stadpark. This hotel lies at the heart of Vienna and spans two magnificent Viennese buildings: the former Palais Henckel von Donnersmarck and the Palais Leitenberger.
The luxury hotel comprises 31 rooms and 80 suites, and an authentic Austrian spa offering holistic spa treatments and facilities that include a swimming pool, hammam, jacuzzi and sauna, and plenty of meeting and event space.
Decor is inspired by the Imperial period, with the mosaics of Klimt and other Austrian artists for guests to admire. In a nod to its sister property Almanac Barcelona, Spanish designers Beriestain has sympathetically woven modern interiors into the bones of the historic buildings, while the abstract work of Spanish artists Alejandro Jaler and Nicolas Luca adorns the lobby and the restaurant.
With a focus on local culinary tradition, Donnersmarkt restaurant at Almanac Palais Vienna promises a modern and creative take on Austrian Alpine-inspired ‘plant-forward’ cuisine. The menu features historic recipes recreated with local seasonal vegetables, herbs, flowers, cheeses, meat and fish. Alongside Donnersmarkt, the hotel also has a speciality Elias coffee shop and a gold circular bar where Austrian craft beers, spirits and natural wines take centre stage.
The 204-room Almanac X Alcron Prague — the first in the Almanac X Hotel collection — is located near the historic Wenceslas Square. First opened in 1932 as The Alcron Hotel Prague, it has undergone an extensive refurbishment, which sees the property regain the glory of its former Alcron days, when it was a favourite with actors, producers, singers, writers, celebrities and foreign correspondents.
The hotel’s restaurant, The Alcron, offers a modern take on local Czech cuisine, showcasing alternative and traditional Czech cooking with a plant-forward approach designed to provide Bohemian culinary tradition in a new 21st-century setting.
Like the property in Vienna, Almanac X Alcron Prague also has an Elias coffee shop and will see the opening of the rooftop terrace in 2024 — all designed to re-create the hotel’s historical prominence as a cultural hot spot.
Both Almanac Vienna and Almanac X Alcron Prague will offer guests unique insider tours of the cities that are exclusive to the hotel.
