The world’s first Afternoon Tea centred around love and appreciation for tequila is launching at the NYX Hotel in Holborn. Its name? Afternoon TeaQuila, of course.
Launching on 7 April, Afternoon TeaQuila is promised to provide a sweet and savoury menu of luxurious and Mexican-inspired delights. A decadent dark chocolate & chilli brownie will sit alongside a zesty key lime chilli posset and seasonal fruit tart while mini veggie burritos, chicken tacos, tequila grilled shrimps and stuffed baby peppers with Mexican beef will pique a palette’s interest with just the right amounts of tequila and spice.
Paying homage to the traditional afternoon tea, this culinary experience will also include a scone accompanied by a tequila-infused jam that packs both a sweet and boozy punch, and a bespoke hand-made cookie from London-based biscuit company, Biscuiteers.
Served in the hotel’s restaurant on the ground floor, this £39 per person fiesta-on-a-cake-stand includes ‘La Margarita’, a perfectly balanced cocktail featuring fresh lime juice, agave syrup and Volcán Tequila Blanco, transporting guests to the shores of Mexico with one sip. A selection of additional margaritas is also available.
Tequila and mezcal are one of the fastest-growing spirits categories in the UK with sales up by 36% in 2021. Clocking this growth in popularity, NYX Hotel London Holborn has not only created this decadent afternoon tea offering but also houses a tequila library with over 20 varieties, from popular serves through to more niche mezcals.
“Tequila is such a popular spirit now,” says Suzanne Palm, Venue Director at NYX Hotel London Holborn. “Margaritas are our best-selling cocktails, so we wanted to create a fun but luxury afternoon tea offering, allowing us and our guests to celebrate our love of tequila!”
