Britons are still keen to travel despite the cost of living rising rapidly, according to research by Icelandair, which is handy as the airline has put together a ‘try before you fly’ event, recreating the land of fire and ice right in the centre of London.
Its research shows that an overwhelming 75% of those sampled are crying out for opportunities to relax and spend quality time with family, with four out of five Brits looking to make lifestyle changes to be still able to travel in the next 6-12 months. Just under half are cutting back to fund travel, including stopping takeaways or opting for nights at home versus nights out.

Iceland: Around the Corner
To highlight the benefits of travel, Icelandair has developed the free Iceland: Around the Corner experience. Opening during the October half term, it will help the public relax with their family in a unique Icelandic environment. From hiking up a glacier to relaxing in a geothermal spa, or from sampling the ever-growing music scene to watching the Aurora Borealis dance across breath-taking winter skies, ‘Around The Corner’ will be an adventure for all ages this half-term.
Attendees will also have the chance to win a range of prizes, including a trip to Iceland.
Running for three days, from 28th to 30 October, the event
will treat visitors to a free Icelandic stopover by recreating highlights of Iceland in central London. Special events include…
- A Blue Lagoon Soundbath event on Saturday 29th October from 9.30am to 10.30am and then on Sunday 30th October from 9.30am to 10.30am.
- A Photo Exhibit and Talk from Benjamin Hardman on Friday 28th October from 12.30pm to 1pm and then on Saturday 29th October from 12.30pm to 1pm.
- The Mini Airwaves festival, featuring live acts from the 2022 Airwaves Festival line-up and DJ, on Saturday 29th October from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
- Family Fun Day on Sunday 30th October, with a sensory-dampened hour taking place from 3.30pm.

“I am delighted that Icelandair is able to bring the spirit of Iceland to the UK,” exclaimed Icelandair president & CEO, Bogi Nils Bogason. “At this amazing public event during the UK October half-term we are offering a unique Icelandic stopover, by recreating the land of fire and ice right in the heart of the capital. Event-goers will be surrounded by raw and tranquil vistas, icy wonders and surprising landscapes proving that with Icelandair we really do go further than you think.”
With 58% of Brits finding it hard to find affordable things to do for the October half-term, it’s helpful that Iceland: Around The Corner is free to attend and open to everyone. Icelandair has partnered with a range of Icelandic partners to bring the spirit of Iceland to London, including The Blue Lagoon, Inspired by Iceland, and 66°North.
