Bamboo has been a valuable resource for mankind for thousands of years, being used to produce heat, shelter, food and more recently, clothing. But how about water? Juno Bamboo Water believes that this abundant grass can not only hydrate us but also provide myriad health-inducing properties along the way.
As a natural resource, bamboo has a lot of plus points. Some species of bamboo rank among the fastest growing plants in the world, making it one of the most sustainable and renewable resources at our disposal. But why would we want to drink bamboo water, when there are so many other options already available?
Health drinks are big business – we are always looking for that next big thing to make us look and feel younger and healthier. Juno Bamboo Water believes that its elixir infused with yuzu should be at the top of our shopping lists.
The beverage brand suggests that its drink contains antimicrobial properties that protect from various bacteria and strengthen the immune system. Bamboo water has links to traditional medicines and has over the years been used to treat ailments such as wounds or to relieve mild indigestion.
The company also believes that bamboo water may also help to fight against common cold and flu viruses, reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and ease menstrual pains.
There are a number of other claims relating to the beauty benefits of bamboo water too, which do sound like excellent reasons to consume the infusion. Bamboo Water is naturally hydrating which leads to a clearer and healthier complexion. The silica content, according to Juno Bamboo Water, also boosts collagen production, which helps to combat wrinkles and fine lines, as well as improving the strength and quality of your hair and nails.
This, the first botanical water made with infused bamboo leaves, is sugar-free, caffeine-free and naturally low in calories – so surely it’s too good to be true? We asked Juno Bamboo Water about the health benefits, and whether there is any current research to support the blurb. “We can’t make any health claim about the drink at this stage”, came the response. “However, there is ample scientific research on bamboo leaf extract – our key ingredient – proving that it is rich in natural antioxidants, essential minerals, and flavonoids. Bamboo extract is known to have anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, antioxidative, and anti-ageing properties. Bamboo is rich in Vit E, C, and natural silica. Silica helps to regenerate the skin, to delay the ageing process, and to grow hair stronger and faster.”
While we can’t say that Juno Bamboo Water is going to resolve your wrinkles or reduce your pain, we can tell you that it is a refreshing drink, although an acquired taste. The hint of yuzu gives it a quite sharp flavour that has faint hints of citrus about it but does make the water-based beverage more interesting. There are hints that another flavour will be joining the line-up soon, but as yet there are no spoilers as to what that might be.
If you like the idea of a low-calorie, sustainable drink, that might well have some natural benefits for all-round health and beauty, then this could be one for you. The only stumbling block might be the price. When purchased directly from Juno Bamboo Water
, a multi-pack of 12 250ml bottles comes in at £26.90, placing it firmly in the premium sector.
But then again, you don’t see many wrinkled, bald pandas…
