Savile Row’s Argent Timeless Is a Petrolhead’s Dream

Argent Timeless is a shop on Savile Row that caters to motoring enthusiasts who like the finer things, explains Ben Griffin. While a pair of fluffy dice and an eye-wateringly strong air freshener loosely in the shape of a tree is enough for many motorists, what if you want something classier? Something more bespoke and, dare I say it, more tasteful?

Well, that is what the new Argent Timeless store on London’s Savile Row (near Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus tube stations) is all about. Think of anything luxurious, fancy and bespoke of a motoring flavour and there is a good chance it exists within its four walls. Or it can be made.

Founded by Dean Argent in 2020, just before the world became a bit too indoorsy, the Argent Timeless operation is split into two parts. On the one hand, you have high-quality vehicle storage in Braintree for enthusiasts who want to know their vehicle is not becoming a holiday destination for moss and spiders.

Then there is the Savile Row store itself, which sells motoring paraphernalia of all kinds. Race suits, paintings of fancy Porsches, to-scale model cars, silk handkerchiefs, Allemano 1919 watches, shirts, jackets, sunglasses, hampers and travel cases to name some of its wares.

Yes, you can get a lot of nodding dogs for the Italian-made and designed £14,000 luggage trunk. But, no, the quality will not be the same. Many items are hand-made in England and Italy in limited numbers or bespoke.

Argent let us know about a customer who wanted his beloved red Mercedes on a shirt and swim shorts, and so a tasteful artistic pattern of his car was applied to both items – £550 for the former item and £450 for the latter in case you were curious.

A metal to-scale version could have been made to sit on a desk too, as this is another service offered by Argent Timeless. You can even have custom luggage made (from £3,450) that fits exactly in the boot – or perhaps the front trunk if you’re running an electric car – helping ensure you can bring home the maximum amount of wine and cheese from the European mainland.

As Argent enthusiastically shows all the photos on his iPad of other bespoke customer projects and his own car, it’s clear he’s a big car enthusiast who loves what he does. And that can be quite dangerous if you visit the store and your budget is, shall we say, more limited than others.

Despite that, when you visit Argent Timeless, you’ll probably come away either wanting or holding most of the shop in your hands. And in the land of retail, that is the dream.
