Christmas might be coming, but Lego and Top Gear are going for the Boxing Day Special Edition market with their new collaboration, the Lego Technic Top Gear Rally Car.
Available from 26 December, Boxing Day, the rally car is the result of Lego Technic designers joining forces with the BBC Top Gear team to co-design the body of the car and accompanying stickers to create the pint-sized plastic racer.
More than just a Lego model though, the Top Gear model is a remote-controlled rally car. Controlled via the Control+ app available for Android or Apple phones, the car connects via Bluetooth and offers different challenges and achievements in addition to simple control of the car.
The 463-piece rally car comes complete with a large motor, an extra-large motor and a Bluetooth controlled smart hub, ensuring fast-paced and responsive action for every wannabe Stig.
“It’s exciting to have collaborated with Lego Technic on this and it’s a very natural fit for the Top Gear brand,” explains Jason Easy, head of licensing for BBC Studios. “The Lego Technic Top Gear Rally Car is the result of several months hard work from the Lego and BBC Studios teams and we can’t wait to see it on the shelves soon.”
“We are really excited to finally reveal the App-Controlled Top Gear Rally Car,” added Niels Henrik Horsted, marketing director for Lego Technic. “The car offers a challenging build for ages 9+ who are into authentic play and intrigued about how things work. The Control+ app gives an extensive play experience with several different play modes and exciting challenges.”
The rally car will be available globally from 26 December 2019, priced at £124.99 (or $129.00.) Those wanting something sporty in time for Christmas might want to look at the Caterham Seven model to keep them going.
