Tomatin, the Highland distillery known for its smooth malts, has added a new whisky to its core range — the 12 Year Old Sherry Cask.
This release takes the familiar Tomatin 12 Year Old and focuses entirely on sherry cask maturation, delivering a dram highlighting the rich, deep flavours associated with this type of ageing.
The bottle has a refreshed look, featuring a bold scarlet label and gold accents — perhaps a nod to the whisky’s decadent profile, shaped by the sherry casks used in its development.
Scott Adamson, Blender & Global Brand Ambassador at Tomatin Distillery, explained: “The global demand for well-matured sherried malts, particularly in markets like Asia, has inspired this latest addition to our core range. For over a century, Tomatin has featured sherry casks in our maturation process, and this new release stands as the next evolution of this tradition.

At 40% ABV and priced around £52
, this whisky becomes the sixth expression in Tomatin’s core range, adding to a line-up that includes different cask maturations, each with its own unique character.
Tomatin 12 Year Old Sherry Cask: Tasting Notes
I’ve tried a small sample, which is perhaps not enough to get under the new expression’s skin, but enough make a preliminary judgement. The whisky opens with sweet and inviting aromas, like a freshly baked apple pie. There’s a burst of sultana and a bit of citrus brightness. A subtle smoke, or perhaps leather, adds a touch of old-world sophistication.
On the palate, it’s rich, with chocolate fudge blending with manuka honey to bring a distinct, earthy sweetness. There are nuts in there, too, making me think of a freshly baked fruitcake. A warm and rounded finish leaves behind a gentle spice, sweet cinnamon lingering just enough to keep you coming back for another sip.
