Dans Le Noir?

Eating Dans Le Noir

This spring, Dans Le Noir? has teamed up with Swinfen Hall Hotel in Staffordshire to offer guests a unique dining in the dark experience in a beautiful Georgian manor house – although you’ll have to wait until after dinner to soak in the surroundings.

Enjoying good food takes more than just the sense of taste, which is something that Dans Le Noir? has been sharing with diners since first opening in Paris in 2004, followed by London in 2006. It offers the opportunity to taste gourmet, creative and seasonal cuisine in complete darkness, accompanied and served by unexpected guides. The concept of dinner or lunch in pitch darkness is an original experience that allows us to re-evaluate our perception of taste and touch, while reclaiming and reinvigorating our senses.

Dining in the Dark at Swinfen Hall Hotel

For the month of March 2022 only, the pop up restaurant will be based at Swinfen Hall hotel, and will open its door to share the experience with visitors. By removing sight from the equation, eating will become a very different sensation – the remaining senses being heightened so flavours, textures and aromas will be transformed.

Unlike a standard restaurant, you won’t be given a menu to select from, you simply let them know of any foods you can’t eat, and they will adapt the menu to ensure it’s safe, and then you’ll be guided through the meal by one of the team of blind or visually impaired guides. Once you’ve finished, you’ll be presented with the menu so that you can see exactly what you’ve tasted and understand how the dishes matched with your preconceptions.

Dans Le Noir? now offers this gastronomic dining in the dark adventure in 11 cities worldwide, including Madrid, Auckland and Cairo, giving guests a memorable sensory experience which challenges them to view food in a very different way.
